The Tower

Abigail threaded the needle through her tapestry and frowned. The white thread was wearing thin. She discarded her tapestry work on the floor to gaze out the window at the white sheet of snow that surrounded her tower. Her blue-grey eyes observed the skaters below with a well-worn longing.

In an instant, a bright light leaked through the crowd. Abigail shielded her face. The light disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared. She shook her head in bafflement and disbelief, thinking she must have imagined it. Looking down at the crowd, no one seemed to have noticed the sudden burst of light.
