Writing engaging content is something many entrepreneurs struggle with. They have the know-how, but not the ability to get that across to their audience. That’s why Brand Journalism is a phenomenon that’s becoming more popular in recent times with business owners. It employs the techniques of traditional journalism to help paint a unique and compelling narrative for your business.

Many label the standard content you see for small businesses as “canned content.” As in canned vegetables: they might be acceptable, but they don’t have the same taste as the real thing.

1. Write for Your Audience: This one sounds obvious, but you need to have complete empathy for your audience. Who are they and what are their concerns?

Frame things in terms of a problem and a solution. For example, ask about a common problem, big or small, your clients could have in money, dating, time-management. And frame your services as the solution. Be sure to detail how you provide the help they need.

“Good writing serves the reader, not the writer. It isn’t self-indulgent. Good writing anticipates the questions that readers might have as they’re reading a piece, and it answers them.” — Ann Handley

2. Blogs: Your blog is the news outlet for your business. It’s also a portfolio for your work. You can show potential clients your knowledge and passion for what you do. In both sentences and articles, always ensure you put your most important idea first.
